Overall Tips
It is inevitable that you’re going to get sick during your stay here, so I suggest packing all the necessary medication you’ll need. I have terrible allergies, so my medicine packing list included: Claritin D, Ibuprofen, Vitamin-C, daily Vitamin pills, eye drops, and a few cough drops. Try to be prepared for any kind of sickness because it might be a bit difficult to find the right medication when you’re in a foreign country. There is a hospital and multiple pharmacies within walking distance at Korea University, so if you do forget there are options on/near campus. Due to pollution, the air quality is a bit different here from home, so if this could possibly affect you be sure to speak with a doctor before you arrive. Many people here wear masks which seem to help, but it is best to consult a doctor and do some research before you arrive. I haven’t had any problems with it, but there are a few exchange students that are affected by it. When you’re studying abroad in Korea, walking everywhere will become a part of your daily routine. On a typical day, back home I walk about 1-2 miles a day and on a typical day in Korea, I walk anywhere from 2-8miles a day. I plan to pay for a monthly gym membership at school to stay active, but walking has been more than enough. Walking is a part of my self-care routine because I am actively exercising and burning what I eat. Speaking of eating, it is also important that I try to maintain a healthy and nutritional diet while I’m here. Most of the food here is fresh and not processed, so it is easy to try new foods and continue a healthy diet. The only downfall is fruits are quite expensive here, but I make sure to I allocate some money to buy fresh fruits. You’re going to want to try everything, but remember you will be here for a span of 4-5 months and you will be able to eat everything you want within that time. It is normal to feel homesick and I have experienced missing my family and friends a lot. I make sure to allocate time to check up on them every week. I am able to facetime my family and boyfriend multiple times throughout the week and it has really helped me get by. It is always good to leave some time for yourself too. I started taking dance classes because it was always my stress reliever back home. I met some really cool people and it is a nice way to express myself. Being able to talk to my family and get back into a hobby of mine helped maintain my mental and emotional health
